The leisure and entertainment industry makes a significant multi-billion dollar contribution to the economy, across a broad range of areas including restaurants, night clubs, casinos, music venues, theatres and cinemas. Much of this activity occurs during the evening and night time when the security risks always tend to be higher, particularly from violence or anti-social behaviour. Incidents are often clustered within small, well-defined areas of late night entertainment districts and a substantial proportion of this violence involves people who have been drinking. Consequently, violent behaviour in and around leisure and entertainment venues presents a significant public health, criminal justice and urban management problem. Therefore, protecting customers and employees inside leisure and entertainment venues is absolutely paramount.
