Klaus Schmidt served for 40 years with the Bavarian State Police in Germany. His earlier police service included several years in the Bomb Squad of the Bavarian State Police, where he also received training as a diver for underwater demolition. Klaus also worked for a period as instructor for Special Forces in Bavaria, on both a federal level and internationally. However, his main professional experience was focused on combating Serious and Organised Crime. Klaus went on to hold several senior positions within the Bavarian State Police, the German Senior Command College, the European Drugs Unit and at Europol.
Klaus was Head of Research & Development at Europol (1995- 2001) where his responsibilities included ICT security, advanced information processing, the intelligence analysis department and human language technologies. He was also Chair of the several European Commission language engineering/artificial intelligence research projects, involving a large number of international partners, universities, developers, law enforcement agencies and intelligence services.
Klaus also served in Albania as Commander of the Multinational Advisory Police Element (MAPE) Mission, Head of Operations with the European Community Police Assistance Mission in Albania (ECPA-A) Mission, Deputy Head of the Police Assistance Mission of the European Community to Albania, (PAMECA) (2002-4) and Head of Mission (2004-8). As Head of the Mission he represented the project at the highest level with the Albanian authorities, the European Commission, the EU Member States and the International Consortium of Donors.
Klaus is a graduate of the Senior Command Course in Germany, the FBI National Academy, the FBI Executives training at Quantico, Virginia and at the University of Princeton, the DEA Commander training and the West Point Leadership and Command training. He studied Political Science and Sociology at the University of Wuerzburg (1985-90) and was granted a scholarship for the University of Southern California where he graduated from the Delinquency Control Institute. He is also a Graduate of the Senior Executive Class on Counterterrorism at the College for Security Studies in Germany.
He is currently an international security advisor to CSD Global Ltd, as well providing security advice on integrated border management solutions for the Bundesdruckerein (Federal Printing Office) in Berlin. |
