John Beverley, Head of Security & Policing Development
Overview

John enjoyed a highly successful career with the Metropolitan Police Service where he attained the rank of superintendent. During his career, he worked in a wide variety of operational and non-operational roles. He was a police operational commander at two very busy and demanding divisions in the City of Westminster and he also worked in several headquarters departments, specialising in training, public order, criminal justice, community policing, strategy, change and leadership. He retired from the police service in 2002.

Since that time, John has worked extensively abroad on many UK government sponsored projects, including the USA, Romania, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Sudan, Ghana and Guyana, South America. In 2002, he led the reform process for the Guyana Police Force on behalf of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and later delivered a number of media workshops for national radio and television companies. He worked on institutional, policing and criminal justice reform and change projects in Nigeria and Sudan for several years. In Ghana, he has recently delivered a programme on the management of change for the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA).

John has also delivered programmes to many clients in the UK on topics including the management of change, leadership, strategy, coaching, personal development and performance management.

He is also an international expert on the theory, practice and implementation of community policing. He has been involved in its training and delivery since 1984 and has been instrumental in delivering community policing programmes overseas in countries that include Guyana, Nigeria and Sudan.
