Overview

David Tan is recognised as a leading expert on Chinese culture and business in the UK and has been instrumental in serving the needs of the Chinese Community for over 25 years. He initially came to the UK in 1959 to train as a teacher and subsequently spent the next 16 years teaching in Malaysia and London. David increasingly became involved with youth and community developments, and spearheaded various projects involving the Chinese community. In 1990 David Tan was appointed Westminster Council’s Chinese Liaison Officer, a position unique in the UK, where he spent the next 20 years working with the council as a consultant to the Chinese community in Chinatown and elsewhere in Westminster. In addition, he was appointed as a Regulated Immigration Advisor (OISC) and also served as an education consultant to Mill Hill private school. David also became an adviser and trainer with the National Crime Squad, London Metropolitan Police and British Transport Police, providing invaluable information on the Chinese community’s culture and historical background. David has also been extensively involved in developing business links between the UK and the Far East, and is recognised as being able to speak authoritatively on behalf of the UK Chinese community, irrespective of whether they are from Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan or Singapore. In particular, he made a significant contribution to forging closer business links between Britain and Malaysia. David has also served as an external Consultant to the Star Publications (Malaysia), the leading English-language tabloid format newspaper in Malaysia. David Tan has received numerous awards and certificates, and in 2005 was the winner of The 48 Group Club Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement at The Pearl Awards.
